Da der Stein mit der Schrift auf einem Gewölbe lag, so ist die Schrift außerordentlich gut erhalten.

The gravestone from 1384 had an archivolt so the inscription was extraordinarily clearn

Only food utensils directly associated with the meal require tevillah. Therefore the dreifuss does not require tevillah even though one puts the pot of food on it; in any event no food is directly placed on it so it does not need tevillah. ובקילונייא איכא כי האי גווגא, שהולך המבוי קטן הע״ז  שקורין מרפורצא  עד הקורדויגר״ש  שמתקנים מנעלים ונכנס מבוי הקטן לתוך הגדול, וצריך לתקן כאשר כתבתי, ומותר לכל ישראל.

In Cologne we have such an alleyway which goes from a small alleyway of avodah zarah which is called Marporze (Today Obenmarspforten) until the Corduanarii, the street where the shoemaker fix shoes and the small alleyway goes into the bigger alleyway and it has to be fixed the way I have described and then it is permitted to all Jews (to carry.

 

The Old Jewish quarter of Koln has been excavated and today is bound by Kleine Budengass, Unter Goldschmied, Obenmarsforten and Judengasse Streets.

The Corduanarii, the leatherworkers were sitting in the street "Unter Taschenmacher". This is the prolongation of the "platea Judeorum" (Judengasse). "Unter Taschenmacher begins at the north-eastern gate of the Jewish quarter and wasd called "inter corduanarios" in 1200. The last house of the Jewish Quarter was the first house of "Unter Taschenmacher). The Eruv so is between the southernmost gate at the Marspforte (Marsportze or porta Martis or later porta mercatorum). In the upper story was the chapel of the city-council St. Michael (first mentiones 1021)- so the place of idiolatry. The Jews-lane (Judengasse) runs from there straight north until the northern gate "Unter Taschenmacher". There are 6 more gates of the Jewish quarter: in the west 1. "in Stezza", later kleine Budengasse, 2. "parvus vicus", later Laurenzgittergässchen, 3. Enggasse in the very centre, 4. at the end of the Jerusalemsgässchen and in the south 5. The Metzloch and finally 6. the gate Obenmarspforten (Marspforte). The estimate is between 800 and 1100 inhabitants in the best time before the 14th century.

Cordwain, once a synonym of cordovan (through Old French cordewan) meaning "from Córdoba" describes a certain kind of fine leather, originally from Córdoba. Cordwainer is still used to describe someone in the profession of shoemaking.

And our rabbi Eliezer ben Joel (known for his book Avi Haezri) testified that his teachers had a custom of wearing starched/embroidered linen clothing on Pesach

And there many have the custom to wear the sargenes to cover their everyday clothes when they do not have another set of clothes (for Shabbat

Today, many Jews also wear a kittel or Sargenes when leading the Passover Seder.  The above paragraphs suggest that the custom originated when many people were so poor that they only had one set of clothing for Shabbat and holidays they wore a starched broad cloth known as a kittel or Sargenes (different German Jewish dialects).  Later the question of the starch being chumetz on Pesach was brought up and the Rabbanim made a demonstration that it was alright to wear a starched cloth on Pesach.

        

Le kittel (yiddish : קיטל « tunique ») ou sargenes (hébreu médiéval : שרגניז sargeniz,) est une tunique blanche utilisée par les hommes juifs lors de fêtes solennelles.

Sargenes from Old French serge, from Vulgar Latin *srica, from Latin srica (vestis), silken (clothing), feminine of sricus, silken, from Greek srikos. In French, it came to be used for woolen garments
